Some guiding questions for this week. Again, the list is not meant to be exhaustive, but rather to stimulate the beginning of your thinking on these issues:
How do the student projects that Shipka highlights in her article reflect the sorts of literacy concerns Trupe is talking about in her article?
Trupe’s article is eight years old. How would you extend her examples (and, by extension, her argument) in terms of what is available to students and instructors in 2010?
What do you see as some of the challenges in designing/teaching the types of writing assignments talked about in our readings this week?
How would you compare the act of composing with sound, still images, and video with the act of composing solely with alphabetic text? What are the affordances of these media and how do they differ from alphabetic text?
Comment on the assignment presented in chapter 2 of the Selfe text.
What do you think would be the challenges of designing your own multimodal assignment?
